ManMade lads youth resource by Darren Quinnell

ManMade lads youth resource by Darren Quinnell, Project Manager at ManMade and volunteer coordinator of student work at Oxford Community Church.

There is great value in having single sex mentoring and I have a massive passion to see teenage guys encounter Jesus and grow authentic faith. In recent years, I and others have noticed how teenage boys within the church seem to be struggling more than ever before. Youth leaders seem overwhelmed trying to think through all the new male issues, confusion and questions the world is throwing at their boys.

ManMade is a whole program of sessions, small group material, activities, excursion ideas, and challenging trial exercises ideal for an experience weekend. It’s ideal for youth leaders and churches to use to help disciple and equip their lads.

It tackles different dimensions and values to help teenage boys navigate the journey into manhood with Jesus. Being a man is more than the ability to grow stubble and procreate; it requires a holistic understanding that invades every area of life. I hope that ManMade will help the Church journey with a generation of young males who are wrestling with questions, insecurities and confusion; and that it will give them, and you as leaders, much enjoyment in recovering Godly manhood.

In a society where manhood is rarely understood, ManMade aims to build firm ‘faith’ foundations within men of the future. Boys rarely mark the transition into manhood, they simply drift into adult life. Through our “Rites of Passage” curriculum, subscription accounts and teaching resources, we mobilise churches to form effective lads groups to help unpack this shift into manhood using six core values and focusing on the life of Jesus as the ultimate male role-model.

ManMade is all based on practical activities and discussion starters within a Biblical framework, helping guys to talk and be open in a way that is credible but reflective. So if you’re looking to resource young lads in their journey into manhood, then ManMade will give teenage boys a coming of age experience, with significance, that speaks directly into their lives.

“The format is impressive and covers various essential virtues. There are six sections per session, each allowing healthy flexibility within them, and the deliberate abundance of material means you can pick and adapt parts to best suit your group whether Christian or non-Christian, churched or unchurched.” – Youthwork Magazine

Get free access to Journey Groups, which are the heartbeat of what ManMade in essence wants to be growing and mobilising within the Church. I firmly believe that peers meeting up with other peers will have a significant impact on the journey that your young lads will take throughout their faith life. Using ManMade material and combining it within the Journey groups framework, we hope to create space that over time will breakdown barriers, strategically create intentional conversation, and help prompt the lads under your care to take life and faith seriously in a credible way.
