Half time is a kids and youth resource by Scripture Union.
Half Time is a new tried-and-tested, video-led outreach series that combines sport, games and the Bible to engage young people where they are. Its brought to us by Christian kids and youth charity Scripture Union, and is available from their website as a free PDF download or as a printed physical folder with inserts for a nice affordable price of £7.50. If you’ve got some more active young people in your groups, or some that have way too much energy that needs to be worked off, or you want to try something new to reach young people outside your church – this resource may work really well!
Based entirely on Mark’s Gospel, the 12 part series guides children and youth through the life, teachings and story of Jesus in a way that is active, relatable and memorable. In short the format of each session is Watch, Play & Explore. It uses hand-picked games and sport activities designed to complement each video, draw out the Bible stories and encourage discussion. This isn’t a resource thats all about listening, its about taking part and is engaging for young people without faith as well as those with.
There are 12 High-quality video-led sessions covering Mark’s Gospel from start to finish. There are age-appropriate video options for each session – just choose the format that best suits your group: Junior (5- to 10-year-olds) or Senior (11- to 16-year-olds) There are real-life sports action, testimonies and Bible application from sportsmen and women and also cartoon-based, fun storytelling. To make it super easy for leaders there are step-by-step instructions, diagrams for all the games/sports and questions for every activity, making it easy for leaders to run engaging sessions – even if they’re not sporty.
In addition to Season 1 there are 2 more seasons all with 12 sessions, so there is plenty of sessions available here!
Half Time offers flexibility for using it in mutiple contexts including schools, churches, kids church/sunday school, youth groups, after-school clubs or holiday clubs and its tailored for outreach as well as for use with ‘churched’ young people.
There is also training and coaching support from Scripture Union and their Mission Through Sports team – if required.
