Jesus Died For Me? Easter book for kids review by Becky Lawrence
Jesus Died for Me? Easter book for kids review by Becky Lawrence, Youth and Childrens Worker St Mark’s MK
Jesus Died for Me? is a small book created by Scripture Union ideal for giving away to kids around Easter time. As a church we are planning to give one to each of our kids church children, probably sent in the post with a treat or dropped off on doorsteps. We’ve found sending things in the post really key during the pandemic to help our kids, adults and youth feel connected to us as a church from afar while everything we do has been online. We’ve also helped people feel blessed by recieiving a surprise in the post.
The book is beautifully illustrated by Emma Randall and poetically written by Gemma Willis, is accessible for children without a faith background and is engaging for young readers. The book unlocks the meaning of Easter and retells the Easter story of Jesus, that he came to show God’s love and why he died, as God’s rescue plan for us.
The book also features pages to colour in. It is written in a similar style as the Diary of a Disciple books which our Kids Church children love. I’d say this is suitable for children of any age – the writing is on the small side so some children on lower reeading levels may struggle to read it themselves – but it could be read aloud by a parent or carer.
This book could be used as an ideal Easter gift for your church children and/or as a gift for children in your community that you may connect with through schools work or outreach or Easter activities, or you could buy it as an Easter gift for kids in your family along with some choccies.
