Nua Origins for young people aged 10-14
Nua Origins Video series for 10-14 year olds
Nua is a multi series set of films produced by Scripture Union Northern Ireland. We’ve reviewed the original series in a previous post. This time we are looking at the newer Nua Origins which is aimed at a slightly younger target audience than the previous series. This one aimed at youth in the lower end of your youth group. We love them for their accessible nature – suitable for young people at any stage of faith. It doesnt assume that young people are Christians already or that they have a pre existing faith of their own.
We love all these films and material, they are well produced and engaging for young people and best of all they are great at helping young people explore Christian themes and grow in faith. Best of all it is really easy to pick up and lead with very little to no prep. The notes and material for leaders is all there – we do recommend pre watching the videos so you know what is coming – but apart from that you don’t need to do a lot of prep work.
Heres what they say about themselves:
“NUA:Origins aims to provide a learning environment that empowers young people to engage with Christianity. The series takes a look at the nature of God and our identity, the meaning of Jesus’s death, prayer, the Scriptures especially those who encountered Jesus.
NUA Origins is a 8 part series is ideal for ages 10-14yrs or those preparing for confirmation within the Anglican tradition. We have called it NUA:Origins because of the cultural fascination with superheroes origins stories. We love to find out the back story of people’s lives.
Through 8 (12-15minute) short films, host’s Jonny Somerville, Sarah Campbell and Eric Hughes share the origins of their faith journeys whilst encouraging the viewers to explore or begin their own.”
The 8 episodes are:
1. Masterpiece: Who is God and who am i?
2. Worth: Why did Jesus live and die?
3. New Beginnings: what does Jesus’ resurrection mean for us?
4. Connection: how can we talk to God?
5. Story: can we really understand the Bible?
6. Guide: how does the Holy Spirit work in our lives?
7. Belong: what does it mean to be a part of church?
8. Journey: how do we live out faith today?
With this series, you receive everything you need to run NUA:Origins; plans, games, and discussion questions all for free – which is ideal if your youth group has a very small or no budget for resources. The only cost is the printed Journal (available to order for €2) which we would highly recommend to enhance the experience and serve as a meaningful keepsake. (But you can totally use it without if you don’t have a budget)
All the films are accessible for free on YouTube – or you can register on the Nua website to get access to the video downloads and leaders material.
