Rooted Hub Conversation Cards review by Bex Jignasu
Rooted Conversation Cards review by Bex Jignasu, youth & childrens work volunteer at Loughton Baptist Church
These cards are designed by Scripture Union for use in a Rooted Youth (11-14’s) context. More details below. However during lockdown I have been using these cards both as ice breakers and as ending conversations for us in online Zoom sessions with our children and youth.
I’ve also sometimes taken out a few cards beforehand for use with specific themes for our Zoom sessions to assist in the discussions. I started using the cards before lockdown so the children/youth were used to them so when we started them, so when we started to use them again on Zoom it wasn’t a new thing for them and they had gotten used to thinking about and answering the questions.
You could use these cards as an activity in the opening or closing of your session for instance: “What is your favourite TV programme and why?”
Or choose a more in depth card topic like: “If you could ask God any question what it would be?”
The cards have been an invaluable little tool just to assist in our chats and discussions with both children and youth. I really recommend them for use with children, youth or families!
Here’s what Scripture Union says about the Hub Cards.
“This pack of 64 Rooted Hub Cards are here to help you start conversations with any young person you meet, in any context, on a range of topics, including:
- General questions about everyday life and contemporary culture
- Faith-based questions for those with little or no faith
- Wellbeing questions exploring feelings and emotions
- Choices questions, opening up conversations about lifestyle, health and identity.”
You can find the cards here on Scripture Union’s resource store for £7.50 per set (you may need to sign up for a free log in to purchase from their shop).
