Treasure Seekers Online Holiday Club for kids review by Bex Jignasu

Guardians of Ancora Treasure Seekers Online Holiday Club review by Bex Jignasu, Youth and Kids volunteer at Loughton Baptist Church

This holiday club from Scripture Union is based around stories of Jesus explored in the Guardians of Ancora game app.  Starting with the birth of Jesus and ending with his resurrection, this holiday club gives children the chance to hear the gospel for themselves and invites them to consider their own response.

At Loughton Baptist Church we will be running this as an online holiday club over the Easter holidays for primary school age children. We decided to use this holiday club because of the great Easter message but also due to the current ongoing restrictions as it’s based around the Guardians of Ancora game which is an app that the children can play at home so it lended itself really well to an online holiday club.

For those that don’t know, Guardians of Ancora is an interactive video game app created by Scripture Union as a fun way to engage children in learning about Bible stories and bring them to life.  The app available on android and apple is completely free and aimed at 8 to 11 year-olds.   Kids can enter the wonderful world of Ancora and create their own game character.

The official marketing says: “Play your way through exciting Bible Quests, using your very best parkour (free running) skills. Not only are the stories of the Bible brought to life in new and action-filled ways, but also your character gets to be right there in the midst of the story, entering in and discovering the adventures of the Bible from the inside.”

Prior to the holiday club we will deliver to the children craft bags with instructions about which game stories we will be talking about each day.  The plan is for the children to do the crafts and play the games in their own time at home.  We will then host daily scheduled Zoom sessions during the week to interact with the children; to recap the story of each day around the game and for them to ask questions about the story.  We hope this will be a great event for kids during Easter and will help them understand Gods big love for us and the Easter story.
