Justice X Together – resource pack for youth by Tearfund

Justice X Together is a four-part series designed to help you explore injustice and social justice with your youth group, inspiring and equipping them to be part of the solution. The programme provides opportunities to practically take action and discuss what it means to live a just life. This is a free resource pack which comes with leaders guide, a poster and a leaders games guide.  I got a copy of this resource for free at the National Youth Ministry Weekend a couple of years ago. I haven’t been paid to promote it – i do actually love it – especially as there is not a lot of resources out there with a social justice theme.  The resource is by global christian charity Tearfund – who are a UK based and are dedicated to ending poverty and injustice, working with local churches in over 50 countries to empower communities through sustainable development, disaster relief, and advocacy, driven by faith to help people reach their potential. They provide aid, develop farming techniques, and challenge unjust systems, focusing on transforming lives by addressing immediate crises and long-term poverty.

The idea behind this pack is to engage your young people in thinking about some world issues and grow in empathy and give them some tools to do something about it.  Based off the famous Bible verse, Micah 6:8, “Act Justly, Love Mercy, walk humbly.”  As Christians we should care about others around the world and should look for ways to enage in making the world a better place – even if we wont be the ones to benefit the most.  Our actions do matter and make a difference.  Lots of young people, especially those in Gen Alpha – already care about these big world issues and this is a fab resource to get along side them and help them explore the themes further.  This series explores justice issues including climate change, race, fast fashion and poverty/social inequality.  There are 4 videos and 4 sessions with a leaders guide to help you faciliate.  Videos are around 15 mins long and feature a short talk and presenters and parts to pause with questions to discuss.  Using real stories of real people around the world and discussion questions it helps inform young people and helps them unpack what they think and to be a part of finding solutions.

The themes of the 4 sessions are:

1: Are we for the richer or the poorer?

2. Can we slow down fast fashion?

3. Are we burning down the house?

4. Is race an us problem?

There is also a games session too with games which link directly into the content, which can be used as a fifth session or you can use the games as additonal content for the 4 sessions.

This resource was released right at the end of COVID – so there are online options for hosting the content as well as in person. There is in my copy anyway – there may be a newer version.
