Orbit daily youth devotional by Youthscape review by Becky Lawrence

Orbit daily youth devotional by Youthscape review by Becky Lawrence, Youth and Kids worker at St Mark’s MK and Director & Founder of Youthwork+

Orbit is a daily youth devotional for young people from Youthscape.  It consists of short 5-10 min audio accessed from their website, Spotify or Apple Podcasts or an instagram account which posts the devotions daily.  There is also Bible verses text to  accompany the episode on the Youthscape Orbit website and a transcript of the audio.  For those who don’t know, devotions are a great tool from which to access a little bit of the Bible everyday, with a little bit of explanation and usually some advice on how to apply it to our lives.  This one is focused specifically on young people and helping them access, explore and apply the Bible to their lives and understand more about God who loves them.

You could use these devotionals as a tool to signpost to your young people to use in their own time to help with at home discipleship, to encourage them to actually use it you could get them to feedback on what they’d heard or learnt when you meet together.  You could also use them as content or a springboard for 1-2-1 mentoring with a young person where you could listen together and then discuss what you’ve heard.  You could use it as content for a discipleship small group or even for a small youth group as part of a wider program.

Heres an example of one of the days,

“Week 9: Day 3

Today, Iona looks at the theme of God’s faithfulness – both to Daniel and all. generations.

Daniel 1:14-20

So he agreed to this and tested them for ten days.

At the end of the ten days they looked healthier and better nourished than any of the young men who ate the royal food. So the guard took away their choice food and the wine they were to drink and gave them vegetables instead. To these four young men God gave knowledge and understanding of all kinds of literature and learning. And Daniel could understand visions and dreams of all kinds.

At the end of the time set by the king to bring them into his service, the chief official presented them to Nebuchadnezzar. The king talked with them, and he found none equal to Daniel, Hananiah, Mishael and Azariah; so they entered the king’s service. In every matter of wisdom and understanding about which the king questioned them, he found them ten times better than all the magicians and enchanters in his whole kingdom.”

Here’s what Youthscape say about the new devotional,

Welcome to Orbit – a devotional series from the team behind Satellites, designed to help young people to create and maintain a daily rhythm of engaging with God’s word and growing in understanding and experience of the Christian faith.

Each weekday, one of our contributors will share a reflection consisting of a short Bible reading, a bit of an explanation that unpacks the passage and a chance to pray and put what they’ve reflected on into practice. Every Orbit concludes with a practical challenge for the day ahead.

The content will be about five minutes long each day and will be available to watch on Instagram, listen to as a podcast or read on our website.”
