Youth Treasure Hunt Activity by Darrel Hofland

Youth Treasure Hunt Activity by Darrel Hofland, Youth Pastor, St Mary’s Church Bletchley
All youth need can do with some fresh air, right?  All can do with a challenge?
Earlier this year, in our little town of Bletchley, I set up a treasure hunt using the location app called What3Words.
Basically, I chose 10 locations around Bletchley and gathered 10 sets of three words, one set to link to each 3m x 3m location on the map. (The app generates 3 random words that it links to each specific chosen location – once you have the app, you will see what I mean!)
Young people taking part will need the ‘What2words’ app too in order to find the locations by entering each set of 3 words.  You can either give them all the locations in advance or text them the next one when they send you each answer.
When they were at each location, I asked a question specific to the location – you can either print out for them and give them at the begginning or just send to their phones/email to them, saying:
Location 1 – question: ________
Example of the location and question:  Location 1 “Audit/cube/target” (links to a 3m location in the Graveyard) –  What is the date of death, on the nearest tombstone to your right?
You get the idea, hopefully!
Then I asked the youth to submit their answers to me.  First two people to get to all 10 locations and answer each location specific question – got a £5 voucher.
