Understanding Anxiety parents & leaders guide by Youthscape
Understanding Anxiety parents & leaders guide by Youthscape
This is a practical workbook for youth leaders, parents and those supporting young people around the issue of anxiety. I feel like at Youthwork+ we’ve mentioned anxiety a lot recently. It keeps coming up whenever we talk about young people and it’s a growing concern for parents, youth leaders and young people themselves. Anxiety affects more and more young people and is a trait strongly connected to Generation Alpha who grew up during the pandemic and lockdowns. As family workers, youth leaders and parents it is really helpful to grow our understanding of what anxiety is, what signs to look for and what tools can help so that we can both be informed and able to support young people in our care in the best way possible. This booklet is a great tool for not only understanding anxiety but also from a Christian perspective.
This is a part of a new series of books addressing key emotional and mental health issues from a Christian perspective by Youthscape National Christian youth charity based in Luton.
“Anxiety is a feeling we all experience from time to time, however over the last 10 years we’ve seen a significant increase in anxiety within young people, alongside a rise in the number of adolescents receiving an anxiety diagnosis.
Perhaps you are a family member looking to support a young person in your family who is experiencing a lot of anxious thoughts right now. Or maybe you are a professional who is looking to understand how to help and support young people you work with. We’ve written this to help dispel some myths about anxiety and provide some practical tools to support someone who is anxious, experiencing an anxiety disorder or having panic attacks.”
The book is divided into three sections:
- Recognising the issue– identifying when anxiety may be becoming an issue for a young person

- Understanding the issue– A comprehensive look at the triggers and situations that can contribute to a young person’s anxiety
- Responding to the issue- A range of practical ideas and strategies you can use with young people to help them understand and manage their anxiety
Also available in packs of 10 so that churches can provide them for all parents.
