Youth Christmas Scavenger Hunt Idea by Becky Lawrence, Youth & Childrens Worker at St Marks MK

We were originally planning a christmas meal with our youth group this year but with the pandemic and current restrictions that just isn’t possible, so I had to come up with a alternate plan.  I decided to do a Scavenger hunt in and around our city centre and shopping mall.

I’ve put together scavenger hunt sheets with lots of christmas items they have to find and take a photo of a member of their team with the item (on their

phones) to prove they found it.  I’m planning to divide young people into small teams as they arrive and send them off with leaders and a scavenger hunt sheet

each (so that they dont have to share & avoid covid germs!).   The rules are on the sheets, they can’t take photos inside any shops, have to stick together, must wear their masks and have to stay socially distanced from each other and the public – breaking these rules not only means they will be off santa’s nice list! – but also could lead to disqualification.   The team that finds the most items wins – i’m not expecting them to find them all – i’ve put some totally obscure ones on there to make it tricky!

We’re going to finish up with a round of hot chocolates and snacks on us in the outdoor seating at a coffee shop as a treat.

You could use this with a youth group as an organised thing, or promote it to families to do in different locations – it would also probably work as a christmas lights/decoration hunt around different communities.
